Okay, so I finished one more city drawing.
It's got a bit of wonkiness to it, but that's part of what I like about it.
It's also the one that is most "tight".

I think I figured out something I like doing/drawing, that might make a good series.
It's a city scene.
Not like the previous bridge, but like what I worked on for our church's next sermon series. See left.
I actually made 2 dawings.
One which is more abstracted, from imagination.

One that was based off a real place, using a picture for reference, but using quite a bit of "artistic license".

This is nothing that is an art statement, or something that will be remembered as my life's work.
The reason I am posting it is because I did it.
While everyone was around, the kids were playing, my mother-in-law was visiting, my husband was reading for school, and I still worked on a quick drawing.
It's my own personal victory, because sometimes, I think I don't have enough time, or can't do stuff when too much is going on, and yet, here's a decent drawing done in just a few minutes.
Yay for using time wisely!
It was great to get this done. I have a pile of remnant colored pencils, that I've gathered over time. They fit in a small wipes travel container, and go in my back with me everywhere, for when the mood for easy color strikes.
I've seen and always wanted to do this kinda chart of swatches with them, and this past Saturday, I finally did it!
I feel great! It will be so much easier finding and knowing what I want ti use in a particular drawing. Now I ahve to do this with other paints and colored pencils as well.
I picked up my remnant box of colored pencils and started drawing. I never intended to make a person, but she emerged nonetheless.

So, a couple weeks ago, I saw this fruit at the supermarket.
It looked so strange and intriguing, I bought it just so I could make an attempt at drawing it!
That much I accomplished. YOU can see the results.
I did not manage to eat, it, and it is in the fridge, but now I hear that as a tropical fruit, it should not be refrigerated.
I think I'll cut it open tonight and try it.
According to some other people's blogs, it should be a nice green on the inside.
The only problem is, It cost me $3.99
I guess for art's sake, it was worth capturing it!
Colored pencils on sketchbook
While looking for faces to draw, I came across a contact sheet of portrait shots I had taken during college. This was one of them. I liked it because it was an unusual expression, and therefore, challenging to get the features correct. I think I did it. It also was a picture with good contrast.
If anyone has a good photo of yourself or someone you'd like me to draw, please send it my way.
It needs to be clear and have good contrast.

A good friend had a birthday about a month ago. I told him that for his birthday, I would be giving him a "glaucia original." This is what I came up with
Kareem is the music leader at our church, among many other things. But more than that, he loves music, he inspires others to love music. He will give guitars to anyone who wants to learn, and he will teach them the basics. He loves to support all musicians and artist in general, and I feel like he's one of my biggest "fans" and supporters. He really is the man behind the music and that is what inspired this piece. Pictured are just some of the instruments he plays.
I hope that he'll enjoy this piece, and that I can be as generous and inspiring with my talents, as he is with his.

Another image inspired by one of my photos from Indonesia, this was from a visit to a village which had been "rebuilt" after the tsunami, a little ways from the city of Aceh.
The people were pleasant and happy to talk to us.
The clothes hanging on a line were nice to see. Something you don't see very much of in New York City.
This was worked on and to be posted on Saturday, but I did not have access to my computer or scanner, so thus the late entry.
Done on a 4x6 watercolor pad, and a brush pen for emphasis.
This is a departure from an old picture of Fabio. I just used colored pencil and brush pen. It's special because it was the beginning to a new life for me!
My new scanner, after only 4 scans, has totally blown me away!
It's a CanonScan 8600F. I can scan slides and negatives. Soon all my baby pictures will be viewable again! :)

Doing this drawing brought back great memories.
This is an Indonesian woman who was at a medical clinic which I helped with in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, just about a year ago.
I love how well defined her features are, and her very distinguished look.
This was done with a brown watercolor colored pencil, on sketchbook paper. No erasing.
I took a different approach with this one, inspired by Owen's use of colored paper.
This is a burgundy paper and the drawing was made with a white colored pencil. And I did highlights with the pencil and left the dark stuff behind.
I'm not completely happy with the drawing, as it's got some lines that aren't so perfect, but I am very happy with the approach and the general result of these mediums combine.
